Olympians who competed in Sochi from Lake County!

Very few things unite people more than the Olympics. From the hopeful cheer of the opening ceremonies, to each time someone steps on the winning podium, we follow each step of these athletes as they become immortalized on a world stage. Of course we all have our favorite country to root for, but did you know that there are several athletes from Lake County that will be competing this year? Let's get to know Lake County's Olympians!

(See More about the Olympians below the Update Section)

2/9/14: Congratulations to Lake County Olympians, Jason Brown and Gracie Gold for winning the Bronze in the first ever "team skate"! They both skated beautifully! Go Team USA!

About Lake County's Olympians

Megan Bozek
When the Women's USA Hockey Team takes the ice this year, Buffalo Grove will be cheering on their very own Melissa Bozak, who wears the #9 proudly. Even though she's only 23, Bozek's already a seasoned player, having won gold and silver in the World Championship. True to her roots, Melissa's favorite TV show is Chicago Fire, and her favorite sports team is the Chicago Bears. As for us? We're team Melissa!

Jason Brown
Jason Brown gave the performance of his life at the U.S. Championship in early January, which won him the hearts of millions... and a spot on the Olympic Ice Skating Team. Originally from Highland Park, Brown started skating at Centennial Ice Rink in Highland Park when he was only 3 years old. He also skated at Twin Rinks in Buffalo Grove. Now, at 19, he's headed for Sochi Russia to represent team USA. The moment he saw the scores that would qualify him for this year's Olympics is priceless. A crowd favorite, all eyes will be on this young entertainer this year.  We'll be watching as Jason makes Lake County and Highland Park proud! Here he is with his coach at the U.S. Championship, in disbelief of his own scores. You deserve it Jason!

Gracie Gold
As 2012's World Junior silver medalist, Gracie Gold might not be a stranger to the limelight but as the newly named World Champion, we can bet that she's in for a very memorable experience at the Sochi Olympics. A friendly face that is well known at Twin Rinks in Buffalo Grove, and Glacier Ice Arena where Gold has spent a lot of time training in Lake County and we're very excited to see her dreams coming true.

Ann Swisshelm
Ann Swisshelm from Highland Park has been curling in Highland Park since she was 10 years old. She's a seasoned veteran of high level competition, having competed in five national championships and Sochi will be her second Olympic games. Although she hasn't won gold yet, we're hoping that this is her year! Be sure to cheer her on during her competition in Sochi!

Good Luck to Team USA and to Lake County's Olympians!
